Geeky Loner Asian Kid Proves That The Media Makes a Better Killing Spree Target Than Virginia Tech

April 17th, 2007

Thirty-three people lay dead in Virginia and I’m betting Don Imus is wondering why this couldn’t have gone down a couple of weeks ago. He might not have lost his job.

Excuse my cynicism, but I was fortunate enough to watch the evening news last night. In a single hour of viewing, I managed to witness:

1. Blood sucking reporters shoving microphones in the face of every crying, traumatized student they saw.

2. A newscaster strongly hinting to a father that his daughter was dead in order to get him to break down on television. Then, admitting to him later his daughter was alive.

3. An interview with a student who managed to tape some of the rampage. I’m going to give the kid a break and assume he taped the stuff hoping to gather evidence that could be used against the shooter in court and not because he wanted to be on the evening news. But very loosely paraphrased, the interview went like this:

News Leech: We heard 27 shots on your video!

Scared Kid: Thank you for counting them.

News Leech: Any idea who fired what shots?

Scared Kid: NO, FUCKER! I WAS TOO BUSY COWERING BEHIND SOMETHING FOR MY LIFE. SO SORRY THAT I DIDN’T THINK TO GET UP AND TAKE SPECIAL NOTE OF WHO WAS SHOOTING AT WHO. BUT I ASSUMED THE VIDEO WOULD BE ENOUGH FOR YOU, YOU FUCKING TRAGEDY WHORES!

Ok, so he didn’t say that last part. But I’m willing to bet he was thinking it.

It seems to me that the higher the death toll, the harder the media has to work to mask their glee. This kind of shit makes me wonder why no one bothers to shoot up a television station.

(Anyone want to place bets on the first company to attempt to make money off of this? I can’t wait to buy my plastic bracelet and car magnet in remembrance of the tragedy. Perhaps someone will make bloody bobble head dolls to look like the victims. We can collect them all!)

The part of her article which really made me laugh was who was going to try to get in on the Tragedy money, well this time, it was the SCIENTOLOGISTS, thats right everyones most hated cult/religion/thing has actually blamed this incident SOLEY on drugs he MAY have been taking. Another School Shooter, Another Psychiatric Drug? 28 Dead and 62 Wounded in Recent Drug-Induced School ShootingsToday’s shooting rampage at Virginia Tech is being called the deadliest school shooting incident in U.S. history, with initial reports citing 32 dead and 29 wounded in the bloodiest school massacre since Columbine. The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a mental health watchdog that initially discovered the psychiatric drug connection in the Columbine shootings, says media and law enforcement must move quickly to investigate the Virginia shooter’s psychiatric drug history — a common factor amongst school shooters… [...]

[...] On the Virginia Tech Rampage I could write about how I feel about the rampage at Virginia Tech, but the blogger at Violent Acres has done that job for me (in a swift, elegant and sarcastic manner, as usual). I was just anxiously checking the list of fatalities, and I was quite relieved to realize that one of my former labmates at Caltech, Ludo (who is now a senior at Virginia Tech), was not one of the victims.
