Absolutely Pointless

February 6th, 2008

Ok, so was that last update absolutely pointless or was that last update abso-fucking-lutely pointless?

I guess the only thing I can say is that story is significant to me because it was the first time I considered that there might be something wrong with my childhood. Also, I love the childlike mentality of all the characters in the story.

I mean, we have a younger version of me…the type of little girl who gets pissed off at a boy because she feels he forced her into a position where she has to tell her friend that she’s the butt of a joke. She’s pissed off at her friend for being the butt of a joke. And she responds to all of this by being verbally abusive, because, quite simply, she doesn’t know any other way to express her anger.

Then we have this friend, who is so socially awkward and inept that she’s not only oblivious to the teasing, but becomes so wrapped up in a fantasy that she actually welcomes it. Of course, you’d never know this by her actions, because her first instinct is to run away from the situation completely. Too bad her first instinct wasn’t to tell a certain little boy to fuck off, but what can you really expect from a 10 year old kid?

Lastly, we have The Boy…a cocky little golden child who just wanted to make his friends laugh, but forgot to take into consideration the feelings of the girl he was making fun of. Also, like a typical little boy, he wants to make amends, but doesn’t have the guts to face the girl he actually wronged. So, he apologizes to her friend instead.

At the time, this was one of the weirdest moments of my life. I love to look back on it through adults eyes and remember the feeling of almost understanding a situation, but not quite. Like, everything was there, in the very back of my mind, I just couldn’t work it out logically, you know? It reminds me of how unsophisticated the thought process of a child is. This is particularly useful information to have, I might add, if you do any interacting with children.

Also, some of you might be interested in the fact that not only did that Boy and I become very good friends (And we’re still friends to this day), but I’ve actually written about him a few times before. He happens to be the Boy in this story and he’s also Mark in this story. Not only that, but he happened to be good friends with Daniel and was there the night that Daniel slept with Renee…although I left him out of that story completely because his part was pretty irrelevant.

Not that it matters in the long run. I’m only mentioning it because when reading my site, I sometimes come across as the type of person who knows everyone. The truth of the matter is I usually just write about a small handful of people over and over again. I’m such poseur.

And for the record, my only goal with yesterday’s update was to make it very, very descriptive. So if it reads like a great, big bowl of adjective puke, then that’s why.

Thanks again for bearing with me, folks. I may not show it, but I really do appreciate it.
